Once upon a time…there was a gorge – imposing and wonderful, but impassable and inaccessible.

A first inspection in 1985 led to the decision to build a stable and easy-to-climb wooden trail along the face of the gorge to make the mysterious waterhole accessible for hikers.

Tons of timber were carried, planed, hammered and assembled under adverse conditions for seven long years, before the trail in the District of Palfau could be opened to the public on May 14th, 1994.

Both beautiful and mighty, the Salza River showed its power by destroying the Salza Bridge following a flood only a few years after it had been built. The bridge was replaced by a flood-proof suspension bridge, which has become an attraction in itself.
